The Atlantic Road & Kristiansund (round trip)

Molde - the Atlantic Road - Kristiansund - Molde

This trip goes from Molde via the Atlantic Road - often described as the world’s most beautiful road – to Kristiansund and back to Molde!

On weekdays you will have a half hour stop at Eide before you arrive at the Atlantic Road. Eide is a small village with some shops and a charming bakery/coffee shop.

The Atlantic Road connects Averøy with the mainland via a series of small islands and islets spanned by a total of eight bridges over 8274 meters. The Atlantic Road – Atlanterhavsvegen - is a Norwegian Scenic Route. Norwegian Scenic Routes are selected roads that run through landscapes with unique natural qualities, along coasts and fjords, mountains and waterfalls. The routes are intended as alternatives to the main roads, and the drive itself should be an enjoyable experience. On weekdays you have plenty of time to explore the Atlantic Road, but on Saturdays the bus goes directly to Kårvåg and you and enjoy the view from the bus window.

If you stop at the Atlantic Road, you will get off the bus at Eldhusøya. Here you can take a walk on the suspended walkway around the islet. The walkway consists of latticework (“grids”) “floating” above the terrain and is suitable for or anyone. The service building at Eldhusøya, with its distinct architecture that falls into the terrain, has a café and toilets. (Open Saturdays and Sundays in the spring and every day from 1st June to 31st August.) The area also offers a magnificent landscape, a rich bird life and great fishing opportunities.

Kristiansund is Norway’s klippfisk («cliff fish») town, with rich traditions for bacalao and other klippfisk dishes, that are served in several restaurants in town. Kristiansund also has a varied cultural offering and a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. From “Varden” you have a splendid view of the town and if you want to further see Kristiansund by sea you can take a trip with Sundbåten.

The trip back to Molde goes via Frei and Batnfjorden. Along the route you can enjoy the beautiful mountain and fjord landscape.

About our trips

This is a “Travel like the locals” tour. The tours use public transport, i.e. regular buses, ferries and boats, but we have done the planning for you so that you can concentrate on enjoying your trip. You travel on your own - there is no guide or tour leader. On most of our tours you must change several times between different buses/ferries/boats, and it is up to you to make sure you catch your connections – truly travelling like a local! (The tours are set up so that the buses, ferries and boats connect.)

Tours are not available for booking on public holidays and during holiday periods such as Easter and Christmas due to deviations in the timetables. The timetable shown is valid for the periods when the tour is bookable.
